Fresh, Local, and Yummy

A growing number of chefs and restaurants are proud to say when they use food from local farms. But they are one-upped in the freshness department by farms, such as the sustainable Pennyroyal Farm in Boonville, that serve food. On January 21 Pennyroyal will serve up a meal featuring not only local Dungeness crab, but also farm-produced vegetables, herbs, goats' milk cheese, and meat. Dishes will be prepared in the facility's professional culinary kitchen and paired with wines made from Pennyroyal vineyards' grapes. After the meal, diners can take a farm tour, which will include a visit with goats and a look-see at the estate gardens, goat-milking parlor, and creamery. Brunch, which costs $75, will be served at 12:30 p.m. and followed by the tour, which is an additional $10. Call 895-2410 or go to pennyroyalfarm.com to make reservations.
