Berry Delicious

Blackberries may cost a bundle at the supermarket during most of the year, but come summer, they’re available literally for the pickin’—in backyards, on trails, and even on the sides of roads. The annual free Round Valley Blackberry Festival, August 17–18, celebrates the sweet, juicy fruit with live music, blackberry delicacies, arts and craft booths, local-wine tasting, and, for the kids, a climbing wall and games. There’s also a foot race and, on Aug. 18, a car show. The event is held at the festival grounds in Covelo and runs 10 a.m.–5 p.m. both days.
