Everyone has hobbies, and for the Shah Jahan, a 17th century Mughal emperor, it was building. When he came into power he erected two mosques. But then his wife died, and, bereft, he ordered the construction of his most famous edifice: the Taj Mahal. Made of marble and semi-precious stones, the mausoleum houses his beloved’s remains.
