Save the Salmon

For decades, Northern California’s salmon have had a rough go of it. Between dams, habitat destruction, wild weather, and pesticide run-off, their numbers have significantly dwindled. Since the 1970s, Fort Bragg’s Salmon Restoration Association has worked to help bring salmon—specifically Coho salmon—back. To support their efforts, the nonprofit holds the annual World’s Largest Salmon Barbecue. Rows and rows of salmon are grilled while a local band performs and wine and beer are served. This year’s event is on July 1, 11 a.m.–6 p.m., at Noyo Harbor in Fort Bragg. Tickets are $35, $15 for children 11 and younger, and may be purchased at tinyurl.com/2hd7ftu5.
