Mendo Lake Family Life

Remember Postcards?

Postcards. Remember those? While they are practically obsolete now, in the early 1900s they were definitely a thing. And two women who loved photography developed a passion for making and selling them in the southern California town of Mecca. The photographs and post cards of Susie Keef Smith and her cousin Lula Mae Graves will be on display at the Grace Hudson Museum in Ukiah. And, as part of the exhibit, the museum will be hosting a Postcards Family Day, where kids can make postcards outdoors in the museum’s Wild Gardens. There also will be a demonstration of Native American tools and toys. This event will be held on June 5, noon–2 p.m., and is free with admission ($3–$4 or $10 per family). The exhibit itself, Postcards from Mecca, will be on display through August 22 during regular museum hours: Wednesday–Friday, 11 a.m.–4 p.m., and Saturday–Sunday, noon–4 p.m. For more information, go to gracehudsonmuseum.org.
